What are the difference between a vision screening and a comprehensive eye examination?

Vision screening is usually a basic test that helps to identify the visual problem. It mainly consist of a vision acuity test which uses different lenses to determine if your vision can be corrected by glasses or contact lenses.

A comprehensive eye examination is a thorough eye test that not only assess the vision, but also the eye health. By having an eye exam, eye diseases such as cataract and glaucoma can be detected.

The test may vary depending on the age, needs and complaints but most tests include:

  • Health and vision history
  • Vision acuity test
  • Colour vision
  • Cover test
  • Slit lamp (Anterior eye health)
  • Fundus photography (Posterior eye health)
  • Peripheral visual field test
  • Eye pressure test
Many people mistake that a vision screening is actually a comprehensive eye examination. A 20/20 vision does not necessarily mean that your eyes are healthy as there are certain eye conditions that does not show noticeable symptoms.
Therefore, it is recommended to get a comprehensive eye examination checked every 2 years (or earlier). Do call us at 6538 2919 to book an appointment with us today!
