Frequently Asked Questions

My child is still young, why would they need to have a comprehensive eye examination?

Your child’s health is important, and so are his or her eyes. Some children might not be very expressive with the visual symptoms they are facing. With the increasing prevalence of myopia worldwide, it is important to undergo regular eye examinations to detect and manage any potential eye issues. Myopia puts your child at higher risk of developing serious eye conditions later in life, such as cataracts, retinal detachment and glaucoma. Avoid these detrimental conditions and manage your child’s myopia early with our comprehensive eye examination today!

What is the difference between a prescription check and a comprehensive eye examination?

A prescription check can never give enough information on the general health of the eye and risk of progressive myopia. A comprehensive eye examination is performed by an optometrist. It consists of various tests to detect eye disorders like glaucoma, congenital cataract, ambylopia (lazy eye), binocular vision issues and colour vision deficiency. A prescription check will be inclusive in the comprehensive eye examination to determine the refractive error of your child’s eye, together with axial length (eyeball length) measurement to monitor and assess the risk of myopia progression or even the risk of myopia onset even if your child has “perfect” vision now.

How long would an eye examination take?

Optometrists need around an hour to perform a comprehensive eye examination. It is advisable to make an appointment with your optometrist before the eye examination.

Will my child experience pain during the examination process?

No invasive procedures are involved during the eye examination.

What is the cost of a children comprehensive eye examination?

A comprehensive eye examination for children will charge at only SGD $80.
